Watching God

Our God is a Lord, a Master, a King. He delights in taking care. It is in His job description to oversee our lives, even the minute details we think we can take care of ourselves.

What does that look like? Does it mean we can't put one foot in front of the other without asking first?

No. It's a continual conversation, continual relating and relationship. We know where to place our feet next because we are following Him and our desire is to stay in His shadow.

So when we have questions, we don't ask. We watch.

We can get so busy going and doing, then looking up to see if He approves. But if we can stay, step by step, in His shadow, in His Presence - we will be staying in His approval.

And the need for questions will cease.

What is He doing, right now? What is He saying to you, right now? He's waiting on you. If you feel He isn't speaking, watch. Look up. What direction is He moving?

And then, instead of just asking, "Where are You going?," try saying, "I'm coming with You."

I know your questions. But I also know a simple answer will not satisfy your needs. You must experience the answer, and you must walk with Me towards it. I'm not refusing to answer you. I'm taking you to a place where you and the answer become one. A place where the answer gets a stronger hold on you than the questions you have held on to so long.

Do you trust Me? A trust beyond keeping you while in the struggle? This is a trust that takes you into a new place, a new dimension, past the questions and into the experience of Me. I'm waiting - won't you follow Me?

Everyone has seasons of sadness. We lose a loved one, a marriage falters, a child leaves home - any of countless things can happen to bring us there. Ecclesiastes even promises us there will be times of both weeping and rejoicing. I was in such a time myself when the Lord said something very interesting to me. He said, "Sow your tears." A Kingdom of Opposites

The Kingdom of God is backwards - at least to our "modern" thinking. Jesus taught that you must be last to be first and you must die to live. The Lord of all creation came to earth as an infant. The vengeful Warrior is also a loving Husband and merciful Father. Paul, one of the most powerful and impactful men in the Bible, considered himself to be the least of all people. As we walk with the Spirit, we learn we must be empty to be filled. And we must be filled to empty ourselves back out. We enter through the narrow gate, only to find ourselves in the widest possible place - the vastness of the Kingdom of God, which is continually on the increase. We continually strive to become smaller in order to hold more of Him. As we lower ourselves, He raises us up. What sound do you make?

"Every church should have a sound." I heard a pastor say that recently, and it has stuck with me. As I've mulled it over, though, it's boiled down to the individual level - every person in the kingdom of God should have a sound. But what does that really mean? "A sound?" What is that? The Lord's Prayer, from Matthew 6:9-13, includes the plea: "Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." When you really think about that, it sounds great - but how do you really get that to happen? How do we get what's on heaven to come down here to earth? We release it.
