Learning to live a God-first life

Almost 5 years ago, I began attending a new church. In fact, I moved 700 miles from home to do so.

This church was focused on restoring the honor of God in a society sick with selfishness. One of the first things I was taught was: "It's not about you. It's all about Him."

At first, this almost scared me: "I have so many needs; I'm so messed up - how will it all ever get fixed if I don't focus on me for a while?!"

But God had brought me here, so I decided to throw myself into it. I decided it's His way, not my way, even if it's not always going to be how I planned or thought.

So, almost 5 years later, here's what I've discovered - when I make my life all about Him, my needs get met after all.

If I am in lack, I can go to God expecting provision. Why? Because He doesn't get glory when one of His own is in need.

I can ask for healing because sickness doesn't bring Him honor.

If I need favor, and I've given my life to exalt Him, I will get it - because it's all about Him.

This God-first life isn't a dictatorship between a tyrant and a peon. It's a relationship between a King and His loyal sons and daughters. We take care of His business and He takes care of ours.

When we realize we are safely in the "house" - the Kingdom - it changes everything.  We are members of the family, not beggars standing outside hoping for scraps.

Now, we don't have to focus on getting our needs met. We can focus on what our Father wants done. And He gives us access to everything we need to do it!

A beggar can't help anyone, but a trusted son or daughter can go anywhere and do anything.

Who are you?
